April Ross

April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball players to win medals at many Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll be aiming to win her third gold medal along with the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross is hoping to secure the Olympic first gold medal, however, she also hopes to earn greater. At 39, it could be her last opportunity to accomplish this. Nevertheless, she remains certain of taking top honors. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we try our best, and even If we play our best, I think we could be able to win gold." So I'm going to take some luck as well. Ross, who was born 1982 and was raised in Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started participating in athletics at the Newport Harbor High School. The athletic pursuits she pursued began at Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of sports. As a pre-schooler, she competed in indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as running track. She stood out however at this level. As a high school volleyball career in her university profile, she played as a middle-blocker, outside-hitter and setter. The results of her efforts were acknowledged when she was named 1999 Gatorade's National Circle of Champions Players of the Year. Also, she won the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the Year trophy for volleyball. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple since 2017, the former was already a big-time participant on the beaches long before their pairing. In reality, she's been a winner of numerous major tournaments as well as one of her partners was an all-star volleyball player. For six years from 2007 until 2013, she was a team together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who was the winner of the world championship with Kessy in 2009, was also significant on the world stage. This duo went on to win a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the group that could take home the gold. As fate would have it Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. In 2016, the duo were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross began her collegiate professional career playing for the Trojans of USC after high school. The Trojans were a few years away from when Ross made her debut on the beach and became a professional. She had a great run through college. In 2000 she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year, and was also an All-American. She also helped the Trojans reach into the Final Four. During her sophomore year she was devastated by a personal loss but still managed to be a second All-American. In her last two years, she took the Trojans up to the summit and won consecutive national titles. She was a fantastic volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross was a major in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross never saw her daughter achieve the heights in beach volleyball. Ross suffered the loss of her mother to breast cancer in the year 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. Her mother is still very dearly. Margie is a constant source of inspiration for her in and out of the water.
